Another blow has been struck against Citizens United, and this time it’s not by a city council. The New Mexico House of Representatives passed a bill on Tuesday, calling for Congress to overturn Citizens United via Constitutional Amendment. The final vote was 38-29 with one independent and one Republican joining Democrats to rebuke the controversial Supreme Court case that has allowed corporations and the super wealthy to donate unlimited amounts of money to candidates through the unfettered use of Super PACS.

The New Mexico House joins the city councils of New York City, Albany, Missoula, Los Angeles, and several others across the country in calling for an end to Citizens United. The bill now heads for the New Mexico Senate.

The notion that corporations are people is very unpopular among the American people and the movement for a Constitutional Amendment is only growing, especially since Occupy Wall Street made the repeal of Citizens United one of their key demands. Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been vocal about his support of Citizens United, going so far as to declare that corporations are people in front of a crowd in Iowa. One thing is clear though. The American people do not like the idea of corporate personhood and are furious about corporations buying elections. And rightfully so. The American people want their democracy back.

We need to fight "Citizens United" State by State, petitioning - no, demanding! - that Congress pass a Constitutional Amendment and send it to the States for ratification defining personhood as an individual, biological human, not a collective, corporate entity.

This train is now boarding, and will soon depart. More and more people are seeing what the President said two years ago; "this was a bad decision", as Alito was shaking his head in disagreement! This ruling is one of the worst in U S history, and of course, it was brought to us by the so-called Conservative Justices, appointed by Republican Presidents.

Judicial appointments should be a deciding factor in the 2012 Presidential election! If you want more Corporations are people, and Money is speech...vote Republican. Otherwise, protect the concept of Democracy...and get on board the growing movement to do something about 'Citizens United'...

There are limits to have far we ought to want to roll back corporate personhood, however, since a total dissolution of the legal concept has undesirable consequences.

It is, for example, the nearly two-century old concept of corporate personhood that allows you to have a cell phone contact with AT&T rather than with Bob from the cell phone kiosk in the mall.

I think we can roll it back to a point where we don't have to fear the extremes, in either direction. I don't think most people tuning in to watch the Superbowl this Sunday want to have to watch Randall Terry's political graphic (bloody fetuses) Anti-Abortion commercials in the middle of their football game either. That will be brought to all of us because of Citizens United.

Lets be clear here. NOBODY has suggested that Citizens United be overturned. They have recommended that the RESULT OF MCCAIN-FEINGOLD being declared Unconstitutional be revisted.

People aren't upset at "corporate personhood". Hell, most of them don't have a friggin CLUE what it means. People want campaign finance reform. That is commendable, and it is most CERTAINLY needed.

I want a Constitutional Amendment which limits corporate campaign spending. I'd be fine with an amendment which states corporations may not spend ANY money on campaigns. But as any business owner knows, "corporate Personhood" is necessary and correct to do business in this world.

Get an education. Find out WTF you are actually talking about. Then call your legislator and DEMAND that your state call for a Constitutional Amendment on campaign finance reform.
